The most expensive stay in the whole region at Rs 34,220. It was the Viceroy’s residence, it sits at around 8,250 feet in cedar forest, and it is roughly 13 km from Shimla. It is a destination in itself rather than a base for walking the Mall.
Storii by ITC, Narindera Orchards
Rs 11,800 in Kufri with a 4.8 rating, though from only 306 reviews. A small property in an apple orchard setting.
Radisson Hotel Kufri Shimla
Rs 6,804 at 4.8 from 2,800 reviews, which makes it the best-rated large-sample property on this list and the cheapest five-star rate in the region on the day we checked.
Kufri Heritage Resort and Spa

Shimla town or Kufri: how to actually choose
Choose by what you want your mornings to look like. If you want to walk to Mall Road, Christ Church and the Ridge without getting into a car, stay in Shimla town and accept that you are paying town prices for a view of other buildings. If you want snow on the ground in winter, valley views from the room and a short drive to Mahasu Peak and Kufri Fun World, stay on the Kufri ridge and accept a 30 to 40 minute drive each way to the Mall.
