Our story

A house in the mountains, built by a tourism pioneer.

Kufri Heritage Resort was founded in 1984 by Shree Dhian Chand ji — former General Manager of Himachal Pradesh Tourism — on a south-facing slope above the road that runs from Shimla to Narkanda. It was, at the time, one of the first proper resorts in the area. Four decades on, the family still runs it.

The property looks across to the Pir Panjal range. The Himalayan Nature Park is a ten-minute walk away. Mahasu Peak sits a kilometre and a half up the road. Three menus run side by side in our kitchen — Himachali, North Indian, Continental — and dinner reservations are recommended for non-residents on snow-season weekends.

We are not pretending to be Oberoi. We are a quarter of the price, family-run, and within walking distance of the snow.

Why guests pick us

Three reasons people drive seven hours for us.

Honest answers, not marketing copy. We’ve heard the same three things from guests for four decades.

01 / The view

The view from every window.

The resort sits on a south-facing slope at 8,500 ft. Every room faces either the lawn or the Pir Panjal range. In December and January, the snowfall covers the deodars and the lawn at the same time. Photos don’t do it justice — the silence does.

02 / The family

We run the kitchen and the front desk ourselves.

This is a family-run property, not a franchise. Our spa therapists are local and trained in Ayurvedic technique. The kitchen makes Himachali Dham the slow, proper way — not the rushed buffet version. Reception is reachable on WhatsApp at any hour.

03 / The trip

One stop for the whole trip.

Mahasu Peak, the Himalayan Nature Park, Kufri Fun World, the apple orchards, the Narkanda day-trip, and Chail — all within an hour. Skiing equipment and instructors on-site in winter. Horse rides leave from the front gate.

Things to do

An hour from the resort, a year-round itinerary.

Dining at 8,500 ft

Three menus, side by side.

Our kitchen has been run by Chef Ramesh for eighteen years. He came up through the Himachali side of the menu — Dham, Sidu, Sepu Vadi, Madra — and built up the Continental and North Indian sections to match. We don’t do fusion. We do three menus, all done well.

Spa & wellness

Quick therapies or a seven-day Panchakarma.

Our wellness centre is built on two ideas. Traditional Himalayan and Ayurvedic practice works best in its natural setting — at altitude, in cold air, in slow rhythms. And most modern guests want one good massage that resets the tension they brought with them. So we run both.

Said by our guests

Four decades of repeat visits.

“Booked the Royal Suite for our anniversary. Snow fell on the third night and we sat in the Jacuzzi watching it come down. the resort and his team made it feel like a private home, not a hotel.”

“We hosted our 180-guest wedding here over four days in December. The team handled everything from the baraat horse to the heated mandap. Half our family had never seen snow — that was the gift, really.”

“Brought our 80-person sales team here for an offsite. Wi-Fi held up through three days of all-hands calls. The Himachali Dham masterclass with Chef Ramesh ended up being the highlight everyone wrote about.”

Frequently asked

The questions we hear most.

Is the resort open during heavy snowfall?
Yes. We stay open all year. December–February is our peak snow season. Roads are cleared daily, and we’ll send you a current weather report before arrival.
How far is the resort from Mahasu Peak?
Roughly 1.5 km — about five minutes by car or a twenty-minute walk uphill. We’re the closest 5-star property to the peak.
Do you allow pets?
Yes, with a one-time pet cleaning fee. Please tell us at the time of booking so we assign a ground-floor room.
Do you have a swimming pool?
We have an outdoor Jacuzzi and indoor wellness facilities. A heated indoor pool is on our 2026 expansion list — call before booking to confirm current status.
What’s the cancellation policy?
Free cancellation up to 7 days before arrival in regular season, 14 days during peak season (15 Dec–15 Jan and 15 May–15 Jul). 50% deposit at booking.
Can you arrange transport from Chandigarh or Delhi?
Yes. Airport pickup from Chandigarh starts at ₹4,500 one-way. Delhi pickup by car starts at ₹12,000 one-way. WhatsApp the resort to confirm.
Is it better to stay in Shimla or Kufri?
Shimla is louder, more crowded, has Mall Road and restaurants. Kufri is quieter, higher altitude (better snow), better mountain views. Most guests prefer staying in Kufri and driving down to Shimla for a day.
What’s the best time of year to visit?
December 15 – February 15 for snow. March–June for clear days, pleasant temperatures, and mountain wildflowers. September–November for autumn colour. July–September is wet, mist-heavy and quieter — Monsoon Escape rates apply.
