You can plan a Shimla and Kufri holiday without bringing your own car, but arrange the journey in separate parts: arrival in the Shimla area, transfer to your hotel, sightseeing transport and the return journey. Confirm the pickup points, return arrangements and total transport quote before booking the stay. Do not assume a hotel booking includes a taxi or transfer.
Start with the hotel location and drop-off point
Choose your base around what you want to do. If most of your plans are in Shimla, consider the practical access between your accommodation and those stops. If you want a Kufri stay, work out how you will reach the property, leave for sightseeing and return. The official Shimla District guide identifies Kufri as about 20 kilometres from Shimla; the precise journey depends on your starting and ending points.
Ask for the hotel’s map pin, the vehicle drop-off location and the path from there to reception. A broad location such as “near Shimla” does not answer these questions. Our resort selection guide can help you compare the accommodation after you have checked transport access.
Plan arrival as a separate transfer
Your train or bus destination is not necessarily your hotel pickup point. Share the exact arrival station or stop, expected time, number of travellers and luggage. Ask where the driver will meet you and how you will contact each other. Keep the hotel’s contact details available if arrival arrangements change.

Compare transport quotes by scope
- One-way transfer: exact pickup and destination, with luggage and vehicle requirements.
- Return outing: both legs, stops, waiting arrangement and expected pickup for the return.
- Sightseeing booking: named places, what is excluded, and whether the driver waits or returns later.
- Additional costs: applicable parking, tolls, waiting, extra distance and other compulsory charges.
- Changes: how delays, altered stops and cancellation are handled.

Decide the return before starting sightseeing
If you are dropped at an attraction, know how you will leave. Ask whether your booking includes the return, where you should meet the vehicle and what happens if you finish early or late. Keep the day simple enough that a transport delay does not force you to miss a separate booked journey.

What about travelling by local bus?
If you prefer public transport, confirm current services and boarding points directly with the operator or bus enquiry service. Check where the bus stops relative to your property, how you will cover the final section, and whether the return service fits your day. Do not assume a route passes the hotel entrance or that an evening return is available.
For a group with children, older travellers or substantial luggage, compare the whole journey rather than just the main ticket cost. Several changes of vehicle may be less convenient than a direct transfer even when the initial fare is lower.
