Kufri Weather in Winter: December, January, February

Winter is the most dramatic season in Kufri. Temperatures regularly drop below zero at night, and snowfall can close roads and transform the entire hillside into a white landscape overnight.

December is when winter begins in earnest. Early December is cold but often clear, with daytime temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees. From mid-December onward, snowfall becomes likely. Christmas and New Year week is the most crowded period of the year at Kufri, with hotels booked out weeks in advance.

January is the coldest month. Night temperatures can drop to -4 degrees or lower. Snowfall is frequent. The ski slope at Kufri Fun World is at its best. Roads above Shimla are sometimes closed for 12 to 24 hours after heavy snowfall. Plan for flexible travel and carry chains if driving in January.

February is the last reliable snow month. The skiing season is at its peak. By late February, snowmelt begins and the mountain roads clear. If you want to experience Kufri in the snow without the extreme cold of January, early to mid-February is ideal.

Kufri Weather in Summer: April, May, June

Summer in Kufri is the polar opposite of the plains. When Delhi is at 40 degrees in May, Kufri sits at a comfortable 18 to 22 degrees in the afternoon. This makes May and June among the most popular months for families escaping the heat.

April brings wildflowers, clear mountain air and day temperatures of 14 to 17 degrees. It is the start of the outdoor activity season at Kufri Fun World, with horse riding, zip line and the Himalayan Nature Park all operating.

May is peak season for summer visitors. Hotels fill up quickly, especially on weekends and during school holidays. Book accommodation well in advance for May. The weather is warm enough for light cotton during the day and requires a layer in the evening.

Monsoon Season: July, August, September

July and August are the wettest months in Kufri. Daily rainfall is heavy and persistent. The hillsides are lush green but visibility is poor, outdoor activities are limited and mountain roads become slippery. Landslide risk on the Kalka to Shimla section is highest during this period.

Most experienced Himalayan travelers avoid Kufri in July and August. If you do visit, pack waterproof gear, keep road condition updates handy and allow extra travel time. Accommodation rates are lower during monsoon season.

Late September marks the end of monsoon. By the last two weeks of September, rainfall reduces, skies begin to clear and the hills are still beautifully green from the season. Late September through October is one of the most underrated times to visit Kufri.
